Darke County Sheriff’s Office, Union City Rescue, and Fort Recovery Fire were dispatched to the intersection of Denise Road and Hillgrove-Fort Recovery Road at around 1:40 a.m. on reports of a crash, dispatch for the sheriff’s office told News Center 7.
Jonathon Wendel, 20, was injured after he lost control of his orange 2014 Polaris RZR on a curve, a Darke County spokesperson stated. After losing control of his ATV, he drove off the road, struck a utility pole, and rolled over.
When crews arrived on scene, he was “alert,” but bled from his head, according to traffic on emergency scanners. CareFlight was placed on standby, but not requested.
Union City Rescue transported Wendel to Coldwater Hospital, but was later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital in serious condition, the spokesperson informed.
