Produced by Marvel Studios, distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and serving as the sequel to the 2018 Black Panther movie, Black Panther Wakanda Forever is the 30th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is being directed by Ryan Coogler, who co-wrote the screenplay alongside Joe Robert Cole.
The film will star Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira and Winston Duke, reprising their roles as Shuri, Nakia, Okoye and M’Baku, respectively. Actors Florence Kasumba, Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Tenoch Huerta, Martin Freeman, and Angela Bassett are also a part of the sequel. The sad death of Chadwick Boseman has left a void in the Black Panther film series and, the upcoming movie will focus a lot on it.
The Black Panther Wakanda Forever teaser is 2 minutes and 11 seconds long and is layered with the sadness of T’Challa’s death and the anticipation of who will succeed him. The video opens with Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia standing by the shore as a rendition of Bob Marley’s No Woman No Cry starts playing in the background. With very less dialogues, the song laces the entire video and is a sombre melody that makes Boseman’s death in reel and real life hit us tragically.

The trailer moves onto to show shots of possibly Okoye from the back and Ramonda (T’Challa’s mother played by Angela Bassett) sitting on the throne but, clearly, her heart does not seek power but mourns the loss of her son. As the music continues, a group of dancers dressed in white put forward some moves and we also see Shuri dressed in white. This segment possibly hints toward T’Challa’s funeral being conducted. Later we see a grieving Shuri and Ramona, isolated and sad.
As Wakanda grieves the death of their ruler, the segment takes us to the underwater world. The trailer introduces Namor, played by Tenoch Huerta. Filled with Mayan imagery and symbols, we possibly see Namor’s birth with fins on his feet and growing up in a brief lapse, wearing a garb and a crown of what looks like a sea serpent. Later in the trailer, we also find him touching over a mural of a serpent, a hint that the serpent is connected to his origin story.
Soon enough we witness mysterious underwater expedition wreaking bouts of conflict. There have been rumours that the Wakanda-Atlantis conflict came out of an undersea expedition and this might be Marvel’s hint towards it. But, is this expedition by Wakandans? If yes, what are they looking for?
The next shot shows Shuri standing in the throne room with the fire ablaze all around it. This can represent two things- an internal conflict Shuri has about taking on the mantle as she is next in line for the throne and, also a possible attack that Wakanda is under. The trailer plays forward to introduce Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams aka Ironheart meeting Shuri and, they appear to be good friends.
With the next shot being of a house ablaze, we see the back of a young child facing the burning house, followed by the back of a grown-up character- a growing up for Namor as he loses his house and family. Not to forget, Namor’s father is a human, so it could be his father’s house that is set ablaze. For the next few seconds, the trailer takes shots of M’Baku, Okoye and Nakia, looking up, shocked and taken aback.
In the background runs the first dialogue of the Black Panther Wakanda Forever trailer delivered by Ramonda saying, “I am Queen of the most powerful nation in the world, and my entire family is gone.” Ramonda is revealed standing in front of the senate or parliament, probably seeking help or refuge. However, in a few seconds, we see that the dialogue she delivers is in the throne room in Wakanda.

A mural of Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa zooms into the screen and it gets as realistic as possible. Shots of new characters arrive. One shows the people of Atlantis, followed by Martin Freeman’s Everett K. Ross looking like a government official and Ironheart banging her symbol out of a black metal sheet.
A war between Wakanda and Atlantis marks the final moments of the trailer. It is filled with adrenaline and zeal. The fight between these two clans takes place at various locations from the land of Wakanda to maybe even New York City. The Black Panther Wakanda Forever trailer ends with the shot of a new Black Panther in the scene, this time with golden claws.
Black Panther 2 is scheduled to arrive in theatres on November 11, 2022. You can find out more information about it, here.
